I'm not a professional salesman or salesman by profession. I am a salesman by the heart, I do share most of my experiences to my readers and hoping to get feedback too so we could learn from each other.
It is really a struggle working in a company wherein you have a target quota. When you reach that quota, your boss will be impressed. Some of the boss might say "thank you", or even "very good", but some says "go and push for more". What's left for you is the added value on your quota, means added targets....
Whats best? To work in a company and get paid? Or make your own business and sell your's?

Seeds of learning thru experience on sales
Sales, sales, more sales, just keep on bugging at our minds even after we woke up early in the morning. But hey, wait!, what could be the secret or secrets for gaining expected sales? There are lots of it but still depends on the person who will act on it and how he/she believes on it.
Some salesman I know are just fond of making a sales by fooling around customers but is it really worth it? They doesn't realize that he/she actually fools himself/herself too and also the company behind him. Yah, they hit the targets but not knowing what could be the impact of it to those customers that has been fooled around. Does the company knows it? The answer is a big NO. The company they're working to will surely be in a loss, loss not just in terms of sales but also its integrity as a whole.
Some of them are mostly doing the "My Way" part as in planning things on their own way which are misaligned on the company's principle and objectives. Their only goal is to just make sure that they keep themselves busy at the eyes of the company, waiting for their payday.
So what does a good salesman do? First is to have a good grasp on the product they are selling (Be honest at all times), Second is to let them show that these products are "customer needs" and not just a "necessity" (But don't push it too hard - the customers will get irritated), Third is by leaving a mark, and lastly is to say "Thank You for yor time Sir/Mam". Leaving a mark has a very broad meaning even when you make a sale or not. It emphasizes more on how you approach the customers and how the customers will remember you even if they don't appreciate what you are selling on that time. This mark will surely remind them and come looking for you in times of needs.
Pls. feel free to add more info about this so that we could learn something thru public discussion. I do believe that experience is the best teacher. Let's share what we have learned!...
